Chile Proposes Draft of GHS Implementation

Chile has published a proposed regulation to implement the United Nations’ Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). The notice-and-comment period ends 5 January 2018.

3E Review

On 7 November 2017, the Ministry of Health of Chile published the draft of the regulation implementing GHS. The draft classifies substances and mixtures mostly in terms of the sixth revised edition of GHS and with the same requirements for labels and safety data sheets. The proposed regulation includes a transitional period of one year to implement classification for substances and five years for mixtures, after the regulation is finalized. The draft is now subject to a notice-and-comment period that closes on 5 January 2018.

3E Analysis

Chile's regulation adopting GHS is expected to be finalized in mid-2018.
